“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” Hebrews 10:24-25
I’m big on community. It’s together we stand or divided we fall. No one is rich enough to do without another. “It’s one for all and all for one.” But then, that’s how God intended it to be. He never planned for you to be in your small corner and I in mine. There’s no call to self dependence in the Bible. For interdependence, not independence, is God’s plan for you and me. In fact the word “together” is mentioned 484 times in the Scriptures and “gathered together” is mentioned 97 times. In terms of frequency that makes it an important word. In comparison, the word “prayer” is mentioned more than 100 times and the word “faith” appears 270 times. That’s why I’m big on community. It’s because God majors on community. He wants us to do everything – TOGETHER!
According to the Word we are called to:
Gather together. Dwell together. Assemble together. Eat and drink together. Fight together against evil. Worship together. Go to battle together. Sing together. Build together. Be purified together. Meet together in the house of God. Take counsel together. Mourn together. Rest together. Come together in judgment. Stick together. Be joined together. Exalt the name of God together. Have low and high, rich and poor together. Dwell together in unity. Meet together. Reason together. Consider and understand together. Plead together. Be silent together. Agree together. Commune together. Be glorified together. Endure pain together. Rejoice together. Believe together. Pray together. Hear the word of God together. Gather the church together. Break bread together. Be comforted together. Work together with Him. Be quickened together in Christ. Live together with Him. Be followers together of Him. Be heirs together of the gracious gift of life.
As if that’s not enough we’re to flow together, walk together, grow together, run together, talk together, strive together, stand together, labour together, be planted together, and be knit together in love.
Then when that’s done we’ll be raised together and made to sit together in heavenly places.
