“But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it” Ephesians 4:7
Now what is grace? It’s God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense. “Grace is God’s love out loving itself” Anonymous. It’s God doing something for us that we couldn’t do for ourselves. It’s “free sovereign favour to the ill deserving” Benjamin Warfield. It’s “everything for nothing . . . going to those who cannot come in their own strength” Lehman Strauss. It’s “the kindness of God toward undeserving people” Warren Wiersbe. Or as A. W. Tozer says, “Grace is the good pleasure of God that inclines Him to bestow benefits on the undeserving.” Oh the grace of God. He shows kindness or favour, not because we merit help, but because He recognizes our desperate need and is moved by love and compassion to exercise His power to meet us at our point of need. Praise the Lord!
Which is why I want to “see to it that no one misses the grace of God” Hebrews 12:15. Consider the realities of God’s grace in the following selected scriptures:
God “gives grace to the humble” Proverbs 3:34.
“Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” John 1:17.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus” Romans 3:23-24.
“For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ” Romans 5:17.
“Sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace” Romans 6:14.
“We have different gifts, according to the grace given us” Romans 12:6.
“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” 2 Corinthians 9:8.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness”
2 Corinthians 12:9.
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding” Ephesians 1:7-8.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast” Ephesians 2:8-9.
“But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it” Ephesians 4:7.
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men” Titus 2:11.
“He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Saviour, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life” Titus 3:5-7.
With God’s grace in mind, be sure to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen” 2 Peter 3:18.
“Every promise we can make, every prayer and step of faith,
Every difference we will make, is only by His grace.
Every mountain we will climb, every ray of hope we shine,
Every blessing left behind, is only by His grace.
Grace alone which God supplies, strength unknown He will provide,
Christ in us our Cornerstone; we will go forth in grace alone.
Every soul we long to reach, every heart we hope to teach,
Everywhere we share His peace, is only by His grace.
Every loving word we say, every tear we wipe away,
Every sorrow turned to praise, is only by His grace.”
Scott Wesley Brown and Jeff Nelson.
