The Rodgers

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)

The Rodgers thrive on anecdotes and personal narratives. In fact they’re a storehouse of jokes, mottos, sayings, dictums and truisms. Which is probably why their home is decorated with all manner of interesting, funny, thought provoking, and meaningful maxims.

I can’t physically introduce you to the Rodgers, but I can share some of the maxims you’d find on the plaques, fridge magnets, posters and bits of paper at their house. I’m sure you’ll enjoy them as much as I do:

Seven days without prayer makes one “weak.”

When alone, be careful of your THOUGHTS. When with family – your TEMPER. When in company – your TALK.

People with great minds talk about ideas. People with average minds talk about events. People with small minds talk about other people.

Grace doesn’t depend on what we’ve done for God but on what God’s done for us.

What you are is God’s gift to you. What you become is your gift to God.

Too little to save. Too much to dump. That’s what makes the housewife plump!

Recipe for a Happy Marriage: One cup of consideration. One cup of courtesy. Two cupfuls flattery carefully concealed. Two cupfuls milk of human kindness. One gallon faith in God and each other. Two cupfuls praise. One small pinch of in-laws. One reasonable budget. A generous dash of cooperation. Three teaspoons of pure extract of “I am sorry.” One cup of contentment. One cup of confidence and encouragement. Two children at least. One large or several small hobbies. One cup of blindness to other’s faults. Flavour with frequent portions of recreation and a dash of happy memories. Stir well and remove any specks of jealousy, temper, or criticism. Sweeten well with generous portions of love and keep warm with a steady flame of devotion. Never serve with a cold shoulder or hot tongue.

“Yesterday He helped me. Today, He did the same – How long will this continue? Forever – Praise His name!”

For answered prayer we thank you, Lord. We know You’re always there. To hear us as we call on you; We’re grateful for Your care.
