For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23

Homosexuality (a deliberate preoccupation to entertain or cooperate in sexual fantasies or encounters with someone of the same sex) is a disconnect with the divine plan (cf. Romans 1:26-27).

So why does God prohibit homosexual relationships? (cf. Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:24-32; 1 Corinthians 6:9; 1 Timothy 1:10). At the deepest levels homosexual relationships reflect people’s demands to live life on their own terms. Pride, selfishness, autonomy, and idolatry represent the fundamental problem within homosexuality. Homosexuality is prohibited by God because it doesn’t reflect the nature of God or is an indignant refusal to honour God (cf. 1 Peter 1:15-16; Romans 1:21).

It’s not just homosexuality that receives divine disapproval. All sin is a stench to God. “Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God” 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.

Here’s the crux of the matter. The root problem with everyone, regardless of how we define our sexual orientation, is the sin of defiant independence. It’s not about being ‘straight’, it’s about being ‘in Christ.’ That’s why discussions about homosexuality shouldn’t be a call for judgement, but for repentance leading to forgiveness. Romans 3:23 & 5:8 say, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (but) God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Christ died to offer hope and healing for everyone. Whether we’re straight or gay, there’s forgiveness of sin and fullness of life, not through sexuality as the defining condition for human fulfilment, but through confession and belief that God raised Christ from the dead (cf. Romans 10:9).
