The Trip of a Lifetime

“My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” John 14:2

It’s amazing what pops into one’s mind when one sits down to write. As I looked into the grey backdrop of my computer screen I began to muse about the reaction someone would get from a Travel Agency if they were to walk in and say, “Good morning, I want to book the trip of a lifetime … I want to go to Heaven!” Imagine the scene: “To where Sir?” “To Heaven?” “Well, um, no one’s offering any trips to Heaven. Perhaps we could interest you in a trip to Bermuda?”

Now imagine another scene: This time when you ask for a trip to Heaven the agent pulls out a glossy brochure and says; “We’ve just had a new brochure printed with all the latest information. Why don’t you have a look?”

Opening it up you read the following:

Accommodation. Ample accommodation of the highest caliber has been prepared for you. There “are many rooms” John 14:2. The Master Builder, Jesus Christ, has spared no expense. The finest gold and “every kind of precious stone” has been used in its construction and “the kings of the earth will bring their splendour into it” Revelation 21:19,24.

Passports. Because you’ll be going to a “new” country (Hebrews 11:16; Revelation 21:5) you will need a special passport. This passport is unlike any other. It’s obtainable from Jesus Christ. He wants you to recognize Him as your Saviour, repent of your sin and receive Him by faith (cf. John 14:6; Acts 3:19; Romans 10:9). When you have believed, you will be “marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance …” Ephesians 1:13-14.

Tickets. Entitlement to travel rights and accommodation is obtained by “those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life” Revelation 21:27.

Departure times. Only God knows the hour and the day you will leave so be prepared for an imminent departure (cf. Psalm 75:2; Acts 1:7; 1 Thessalonians. 5:1-6).

Time changes. You won’t need your watches in heaven. There will be no sun and no moon, “for the glory of God gives it light” Revelation 21:23.

Luggage. Everything you need has been provided. You can’t take anything with you “for we brought nothing into this world, and we can take nothing out of it” 1 Timothy 6:7.

Currency. There will be no need of money in heaven for God will be your provision. There will be no buying or selling as this is the old order of things and it will pass away (cf. Revelation 21:4).

Special events. You won’t want to miss the spectacular coronation ceremony when Jesus places a crown on the head of everyone who loves Him (cf. 2 Timothy 4:8; James 1:12).

Don’t delay. Make your reservation today. “I tell you, now is the time of God’s favour, now is the day of salvation” 2 Corinthians 6:2.
