Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. Acts 2:31 (NIV)

When Bianca returned to school after a week’s holiday, she told Veronica that she’d spent her vacation playing in the Canadian snow. Veronica was suitably impressed but became suspicious when Bianca said she’d also visited Jonathan in Canada. For Jonathan lived in South Africa!

The mystery was unraveled when Bianca’s mother explained what happened. During the holiday’s Bianca had played a make believe game with her mum involving a visit to Canada. The game had originated from the fact that Jonathan would soon be emigrating to Canada and it seemed a good idea to pretend that Bianca was visiting him and playing in the snow. The game had been so realistic in Bianca’s mind that the distinction between fact and fantasy had disappeared. By the time she arrived back at school she believed she’d been to Canada!

Now teachers know that younger children are pre-operational in their cognitive development. They know these children have an incomplete ability to understand certain matters because their concrete thinking is elementary and sometimes illogical. Teachers also know that adults have long since grown out of a pre-operational stage and should be able to distinguish fact from fantasy.

Yet remarkably, there are adults who still cannot discern fact from fantasy! Not wanting to accept the resurrection of Jesus they have dreamt up some incredible theories. Here are a few:

– The tomb was so hot that it caused Jesus’ body to disintegrate!

– Jesus and the disciples purportedly ate mushrooms that made them hallucinate the entire event!

– Jesus had an identical twin and it was the twin who came on the scene after Jesus was entombed!

– The gardener was fed up with the disciples trudging over his garden so he stole the body in order to grow his “lettuces” in peace!

But the Bible attests to the truth about the resurrection. If you read Mark 15-16 you’ll discover Jesus was crucified, dead, and buried, and on the third day he rose from the dead.

Discerning adults around the world know this truth and agree; “Christ has risen!  He’s risen indeed!” And that’s a fact!
